For thousands of years, music has been intrinsic to honouring country and ingraining a sense of place. In this side by side collaboration between the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Western Australian Youth Orchestra, over 100 musicians join forces with local Noongar singers to deliver a concert exploding with evocative images of place.

From Perth’s own spectacular Derbarl Yerrigan to Finland’s Kemijoki, the majestic Black Swan to the magical colours of the Firebird, we adventure across lands and through time.

With world premiere performances of works delivered by outstanding Noongar musicians and performers featuring the spellbinding Della Rae Morrison and Barry McGuire sitting alongside classics from Sibelius, Copland and Stravinsky, this magical night of orchestral colour, conducted by Thaddeus Huang, will bring you a renewed love for the sand beneath your feet.

Program includes:
Jean Sibelius Finlandia
Aaron Copland The Tender Land – Suite
Igor Stravinsky The Firebird – Suite

Securing a bright future for music in WA

Every great city has a vibrant arts culture with music at its heart. Here at WASO, we are always striving for new ways to develop local talent for an even brighter future for West Australian music.  In 2021 the Western Australian Youth Orchestra (WAYO) and WASO join forces in a three-year partnership, supported by Woodside. The partnership will provide a foundation of unique training opportunities for the professional development of WAYO’s young musicians. Each year, these workshops will culminate in a side-by-side performance with both orchestras on stage at Perth Concert Hall. With Woodside’s support, these talented young musicians will be provided with rare access to WASO, strengthening the pathway for them to become the professional musicians of the future and much more!
