Work with WASO: Administration Vacancies

Payroll Officer

From the centre of Perth to the furthest corners of our state, every year since 1928, we set hearts racing with extraordinary music and exhilarating performances for all West Australians to share.

  • Fulltime permanent position
  • Perth CBD location
  • Join a high-performance Business Services team
  • Rare Opportunity

Our Organisation

As the State Orchestra, Perth’s first and finest, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) is the largest employer of performing artists in Western Australia and reaches two million people with musical experiences each year on stage, in our community, and online.

From concert halls to classrooms, hospitals to aged care, we bring joy, inspire learning, and nurture participation in our community, because everybody deserves the opportunity to experience live music. Every year, through community and leading industry partnerships, we engage a new generation of young and emerging artists to help secure a bright future for music in Australia.

We celebrate our rich classical music heritage with great artists from all over the world and commission and perform new repertoire to renew and expand it. The Orchestra collaborates widely with major arts companies and independent artists, performing opera to ballet, movies to musicals, jazz to rock. We champion the diversity of music in all its forms, with a team of talented and passionate people who create unforgettable experiences for all West Australians to enjoy.

The Role

Located in the CBD, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) is seeking a part-time Payroll Officer to join our Business Services Team. Working closely with our Finance Manager, you’ll be responsible for the fortnightly end-to-end payroll of approximately 150-200 employees.

This is a standalone role that requires close working relationships with HR, Managers and other key personnel across the organisation. You will also be responsible for compliance relating to relevant awards, employment agreements, taxation, company policies and various contractual obligations.

Ideally you will work 4 days per week when payroll is run and 2-3 days per week the following week to prepare for payroll.

Skills Required

To be successful you will need to have appropriate qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in payroll with strong knowledge of payroll processing and systems.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of legislative requirements regarding payroll: modern awards, EBAs and the ATO
  • Current familiarity with and understanding of Workers Compensation
  • High level of interpersonal/customer service skills
  • Accurate data processing skills
  • High-level attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently, exercise initiative, multitask, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Strong integrity and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Chris21 or IChris skills and experience are preferred

If you have a passion for music and payroll, then this is your next career step.

Your Benefits

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a leading and iconic arts organisation, where you will be directly supporting and involved in live music performance. Our employees enjoy many of our performances either free or discounted as well as non-remunerative benefits such as continuing professional development, enjoyment of our Health and Wellness Program and flexible working conditions. This is your opportunity to engage in a vibrant cultural environment in the heart of the CBD.

All applications must include your current Resume and a Covering Letter summarising your suitability for this position.

The WASO Group of Companies promote a workplace that actively seeks to include, welcome and value the unique contributions of all people. The WASO Group encourages people with disabilities, First Nations peoples, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply for this job.
