Amy Furfaro

Violin

Amy joined WASO in 2024.

Amy is an alumnus of the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK), the Australian National Academy of Music, and the Victorian College of the Arts. She has studied with Miwako Abe, Alice Waten, Paul Wright, Levon Chilingirian OBE, and Jennifer Nickson.

Amy has worked as a freelance musician with WASO since 2019. Prior to that, she was a full-time member of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom she toured extensively, performing in many of Europe’s foremost concert halls.

Her freelance and formative years saw her perform in several festivals world-wide, including the Melbourne and Adelaide International Arts Festivals , the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte (Montepulciano, Italy), the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival alongside members of the London Sinfonietta, and as a member of the Dartington Festival Orchestra. As a Britten-Pears Young Artist (2013), Amy played for the Britten-Pears Orchestra’s recording of Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes for commercial release. In early 2010, Amy was Principal 2nd Violin with the Victorian Opera Chamber Orchestra.

As a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra Amy performed at the BBC Proms and in the inaugural Musica Viva Chamber Music Festival in 2009. She also participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra/Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Orchestral Career Development Program.

Whilst studying at the Victorian College of the Arts, Amy was the recipient of the Kate Flowers Memorial Scholarship and travelled overseas for masterclasses with Professors Mihaela Martin and Gyorgy Pauk. She was also a recipient of Entrance Awards and scholarships to the Royal Northern College of Music.

Aside from her passion for the symphonic repertoire, Amy also enjoys working with aspiring young musicians. Amy spent time working as a resident Practice Supervisor at the Purcell School for Young Musicians in London. Whilst a member of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, she was involved in developing the orchestra’s education and outreach programmes. In Perth, she has taught at Wesley College and continues to teach privately.
