Ode to Joy: Asher Fisch Conducts Beethoven 9

Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy is a dazzling piano solo, a concerto and a large-scale choral work all in one! Asher Fisch is both soloist and conductor in this unique work of grandeur and lyricism, in which Beethoven foreshadows his own Ninth symphony and its iconic ‘Ode to Joy’ finale.

Asher Fisch Conducts Debussy & Ravel

Andrew Nicholson showcases his immaculate technique in Carl Nielsen’s Flute Concerto. Debussy’s Nocturnes conjures images of clouds, a festival, ocean waves and Sibelius’ Tapiola evokes the beauty of a Nordic forest. Ravel’s La valse concludes this concert.

Ravel’s Boléro & Two Pianos

Three colourful works frame Carl Vine’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, given its world premiere in Perth by luminaries Piers Lane and Kathryn Stott. Stravinsky’s elegant Dumbarton Oaks, the jaunty satire of Prokofiev’s suite from the 1934 film Lieutenant Kijé and the hypnotic Boléro!
