West Australian Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce Sara Macliver has accepted the invitation to join the Board of Directors.

WASO Chairman Richard Goyder said “I am delighted to have someone of Sara’s outstanding artistic calibre and high national profile join the WASO Board. Sara is a familiar face both on and off the stage and will bring considerable experience and artistic insight to the board’s deliberations. I very much look forward to working with her in this new role.”

Perth born and raised, Sara Macliver is one of Australia’s most popular and versatile artists, and is regarded as one of the leading exponents of Baroque repertoire.

She is a regular performer with all of the Australian symphony orchestras as well as the Perth, Melbourne and Sydney Festivals, Pinchgut Opera, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Musica Viva, and a number of international companies.

Sara has sung with the Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, West Australian Opera, the Australian String Quartet, Auckland Philharmonic, Australia Ensemble, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Australian Haydn Ensemble, St George’s Cathedral, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Southern Cross soloists and with the Bangalow Festival.

Recently she featured prominently on a 2-CD set of songs, miniatures by Calvin Bowman. His debut recording for the prestigious Decca label titled Real and Right and True.

Sara has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Western Australia (UWA) and records for ABC Classics with more than 35 CDs and many awards to her credit. 

A passionate supporter of musical education, Sara has worked extensively as a vocal teacher and run numerous masterclasses throughout the country. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate performance practice at UWA, with many of her students embarking on high-profile careers.

Sara will perform with WASO once again next April in Bach’s Easter Oratorio.
