Shaun Lee-Chen

Shaun Lee-Chen is one of Australia’s most exciting violinists, celebrated for his energy, versatility and flair across both period and modern instruments. He’s the long-standing Concertmaster of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, where his spirited playing and deep musical knowledge help shape the ensemble’s unique sound.

Shaun's musical reach spans across the country. He’s appeared as a soloist and guest principal with major orchestras including the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Orchestra and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He’s equally at home leading a Baroque ensemble or stepping into a modern symphonic setting.

Away from the stage, Shaun plays a major role in nurturing the next generation of musicians. He’s Artist in Residence and Head of Violin Studies at the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music, where he’s a passionate advocate for both performance excellence and historical practice. He also co-directs the Irwin Street Collective, a period instrument ensemble based in Perth, dedicated to exploring 17th–19th century repertoire in bold and creative ways.

Shaun’s accolades include being named the ABC Young Performer of the Year in 2007 and starring as the featured soloist on the Brandenburg’s ARIA-nominated album Brandenburg Celebrates. He’s also been widely praised for recent performances with WASO, including his direction of Baroque Favourites, and for his compelling interpretations of Bach’s solo works.
