Young & Emerging Artists

Composition Project

One of our most enduring and successful programs, the Composition Project provides young and emerging Western Australian composers with the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional orchestral environment.

Participants are mentored over a four month period both by the Artistic Director James Ledger and WASO musicians.  Through a series of individual lessons, workshops and rehearsals, participants compose a new work for 14-piece chamber ensemble, performed by WASO musicians at the Final Showing on the evening of Monday 10 June in front of a live audience as part of Education Week 2019^.

This project has helped previous participants successfully gain placement in national and international composition programs, post-graduate studies and secure professional commissions and residencies.

Applications for the 2019 Composition Project are now open, with full program dates are available in the 2019 Covering Letter.  Applications close 4PM, Friday 18 January 2019.  Advice to applicants will be made in the week commencing Tuesday 29 January 2019.

For further details on applying, please contact Fiona Taylor ph +61 8 9326 0022.

Audience bookings for the Final Showing will open from 1 April 2019.

Composition Project is supported by Bendat Family Foundation and The James Galvin Foundation.
