Side-by-Side Symphony

A bucket list experience

Experienced musicians aged 25+ years from across Western Australia perform alongside WASO musicians to create the Side-by-Side Symphony.

In June 2025 community musicians have the extraordinary opportunity to perform side-by-side with West Australian Symphony Orchestra musicians. Rehearsing together across two consecutive days before presenting a performance of classical repertoire to the general public at Winthrop Hall, this wonderful concert experience is like none other offered to community instrumentalists in Australia.

Community musicians can look forward to showcasing their talent with iconic pieces from classical composers including Khachaturian and Smetana.

The 2025 program is as follows:

Friday 27 June

Full Orchestra Rehearsal: 1:30pm-4:00pm, 5:00pm-7:30pm, Winthrop Hall

Saturday 28 June

Final Rehearsal: 10:00am-12:30pm, Winthrop Hall

Performance: Saturday 28 June 6:00pm-7:00pm, Winthrop Hall

Repertoire to include:
BOULANGER D’un Matin de Printemps
KHACHATURIAN  Adagio from Spartacus Suite No. 2
SMETANA Moldau from Má Vlast
SILVESTRI Back to the Future Suite for Orchestra

Applicants must be active community musicians, currently playing in an orchestra or band. We recommend a minimum instrumental skill level of AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent. Positions will be offered subject to instrumentation requirements and ensemble capacity. Successful applicants will be advised via email on Monday 17 February 2025.
