Soaring splendour and an earth shattering finale
The tumultuous passion of Haydn’s 49th symphony sets the stage for German mezzo soprano Stefanie Irányi and the soaring splendour of Berlioz’ dramatic solo cantata, The Death of Cleopatra.
Then we’re off to the ballet for the piece so revolutionary it caused a riot at its premiere a century ago. Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring made a shattering impact on the musical world for its scandalous wrench away from tradition. Now, we raise the roof of the Perth Concert Hall to deliver this landmark work of the 20th century with the combined primal force of Asher Fisch and WASO.
