Zoltán KODÁLY Variations on a Hungarian Folksong The Peacock
Béla BARTÓK Viola Concerto
Antonín DVOŘÁK Symphony No.9 From the New World

Asher Fisch conductor
Daniel Schmitt viola

Zoltán Kodály’s colourful Variations on a Hungarian Folksong sets the tone for this folk-inspired program. WASO’s own Principal Viola, Daniel Schmitt, takes centre stage for Bartók’s Viola Concerto, his final, elegiac work, full of the folk-music influences which so fascinated him. The sheer number of unforgettable melodies that fill Dvořák’s New World Symphony has ensured its timeless popularity.
