Sponsorship Work Experience Student – Co-curriculum or industry relevant placement

The West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) fosters inspiration and passion for the arts throughout our community. Established in 1928, WASO plays a central role in the cultural life of Western Australia and performs over 140 concerts each year with some of the world’s finest conductors and soloists.  Our mission is to touch souls and enrich lives through music.

The Organisation

Each year our Orchestra entertains and inspires the people of Western Australia through its concert performances, regional tours, innovative education and community programs, and its artistic partnerships with West Australian Opera and West Australian Ballet. WASO also has a proud history of commissioning and performing new music by leading Australian and international composers. When part of the WASO administration team, you will be encouraged to become involved in our endeavours wherever possible.

The Role

Within WASO’s administration we have created a tertiary-level work experience opportunity for a Commerce, Sponsorship, Arts Management or Marketing student (ideally in their 3rd or 4th year) to work alongside our Corporate  Development Team and participate in a range of sponsorship activities and administration tasks as part of a co-curriculum placement or industry relevant work experience placement.

Experience and Skills

For your application to be successful you must be able to provide or demonstrate the following:

  • A completed Work Experience Application Form, including insurance certificates;
  • Your course enrolment details outlining the requirements for you to undertake a placement, i.e. co-curriculum placement or industry relevant work experience;
  • A high level of attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A demonstrated understanding of marketing principals and related activities; and
  • The ability to be practical and proactive within a collaborative team environment.

Reporting to the Orchestral Operations Manager in the Orchestral Management team, this is a rare logistics and administration opportunity to join a vibrant company that fosters inspiration and passion for classical music and the arts throughout our community.

The Role

WASO is looking for an arts professional with experience in the production of professional classical and/or commercial events. Working with minimal supervision and to strict deadlines, this role requires sound knowledge in workplace health and Safety practices and systems, the ability to read scale drawings of stage layouts and the willingness to carry out manual or maintenance tasks.  As a member of the Orchestral Management team, you will be working from Perth Concert Hall in a hands-on capacity and often outside of standard business hours to support your team and the orchestra in preparation for all rehearsals, performances and events.

Your Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role you must be able to provide a clean and current Australian Manual Driver’s Licence.
You will also be able to:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in classical music and the orchestral environment;
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Able to complete a work fitness assessment and audiology baseline hearing assessment.

STAGE MANAGER

Perth Concert Hall is renowned for having one of the finest acoustics in the southern hemisphere. The concert hall is the home and serves as the primary performance venue for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), and hosts a number of diverse performances and events all year round.

The Role

Within our Venue Operations team, Perth Concert Hall have created a new, permanent full-time position for an experienced Stage Manager with demonstrated success in professional and commercial productions. Bringing a strong customer focus to this role, you will provide hands-on support to WASO musicians, conductors, artists and other performers in the course of managing orchestral rehearsals, performances and events. Beyond the stage you will work closely with Perth Concert Hall’s Orchestral and Venue Management teams to provide administrative support.

Your Skills and Experience

For your application to be successful you must be able to provide or demonstrate the following:

  • Experience and success in the stage management of professional and commercial productions;
  • Proven ability to carry our risk assessment and risk management when staging rehearsals, performances and events. Including knowledge/training in OS&H legislation and best practice;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A willingness to be proactive and hands-on to problem solve and ensure the show goes on;
  • Effective problem-solving along with conflict management and negotiation skills; and
  • Able to and willing to complete a work fitness assessment and audiology baseline hearing assessment.
