Mary-Anne Blades

Associate Principal Flute

Mary-Anne joined WASO in 1998.

Originally from Adelaide, Mary-Anne has been a member of WASO since 1998.

Her teachers have included Elizabeth Koch, and Vernon Hill at the Canberra School of Music where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Performance).

Following this, Mary-Anne was offered a place in the prestigious flute class of acclaimed pedagogue, William Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she completed the Advanced Course Diploma and Licentiate of Music. Whilst in London, she performed in venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields, and toured Europe with chamber groups.

Mary-Anne has performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and played in the South East Asia and Sydney seasons of the Cameron Macintosh International production of Les Miserables.

As a teacher, she has tutored at Australian Youth Orchestra activities, and taught at WAAPA, various schools and privately. Currently she teaches at the UWA Conservatorium of Music.

In her spare time she enjoys swimming, textiles (including quilt making and knitting), and spending time with her family.

Mary-Anne's Chair is supported by an unnamed donor through the Duet program.
