Friends of WASO

Get Closer to Your Orchestra

Patrons & Friends Lounge
The Patrons & Friends Lounge at the Perth Concert Hall
The Friends of WASO are provided with opportunities to engage with the Orchestra while learning more about music and WASO at specially organised events. Most Friends events aim to make a modest surplus which is used by WASO to help purchase new instruments and to support its players.

In 2010, the new Friends of WASO Scholarships have been created which aim to provide career and skills development opportunities for full-time orchestra members in order to encourage high achievement and retain quality musicians in Western Australia. The scholarships are each worth up to $5,000 and assist players in taking up opportunities for professional development in Australia and overseas.

For a small annual membership fee, Friends of WASO stay informed via regular newsletters, get to know the musicians and enjoy events throughout the year, all of which bring you, our greatest supporters, closer to the music you love.

Tea and Symphony
Attend WASO rehearsals and get a ‘behind the scenes’ insight into the Orchestra. You will have the chance to mingle informally with players and guest artists over morning tea at the Perth Concert Hall.

Celebrate Sections of the Orchestra
Attend events that give you an insight into different sections of the Orchestra. You will meet musicians from the section, learn about their instruments, their role and any challenges they face.

Special Musical Events
Friends of WASO may attend special musical events throughout the year. These have included special movie screenings, garden parties, Music from the Chapel Royal at Guildford Grammar, the inaugural WASO Auction at Mt Eliza House Gardens and the annual Christmas Party at Perth Concert Hall.

Thank You to Our Volunteers

The West Australian Symphony Orchestra has a dedicated group of Friends who function as volunteers in the office and the Perth Concert Hall, providing invaluable support to WASO. These volunteers help at the WASO Program and Merchandise Desk at the Perth Concert Hall on concert nights to distribute programs and function as a point of contact to the public. Our volunteers also take bookings for Friends events, assist in WASO’s music library and help administration staff with mail-outs.
