Citibank and Emirates take frequent flyer rewards to new heights:
Citibank and Emirates team up to launch premium frequent flyer credit card

Citibank CardEmirates and Citibank are set to shake up the airline rewards market with the launch of a co-branded platinum credit card that offers arguably the best frequent flyer reward program in Australia.

The Emirates Citi Platinum Card offers Australians a market leading earn rate of one and a half Skywards Miles for every retail dollar spent. Skywards Miles can be redeemed for flights on Emirates and its partners, including a local domestic airline partnership from December 1 2008  and for products and experiences from The Emirates High Street; a one-of-a-kind online catalogue featuring a range of 400 world-class products.

The Emirates Citi Platinum Card offers unique benefits including complimentary access to the Emirates Lounges in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth and Emirates’ chauffeur-drive service to and from the airport when an Emirates flight is booked using the Emirates Citi Platinum Card.

Citibank Australia chief executive officer Roy Gori, said the Emirates Citi Platinum Card provides Australians with a much-needed premium card that is an affordable alternative in the airline rewards space.

“The Emirates Citi Platinum Card is the first co-branded card launched in Australia by a non-Australian-based international airline.  For this reason, we feel we’re providing Australians with a long-overdue, high value alternative.  This card offers unparalleled reward options and benefits not offered by any of our competitors.”

Emirate Jet“The Emirates Citi Platinum Card’s launch is also particularly timely, given the recent upheaval in the rewards space,” Mr Gori said.

In addition, cardholders also enjoy 24-hour personal concierge, global acceptance from MasterCard and free international travel, transit accident, purchase cover and extended warranty insurance, all for an extremely competitive annual fee of $199 per year.

Brian Labelle, Senior Vice President of Skywards, said, “Skywards is very proud to announce its new partnership with Citi.  Our aim is to take our members far beyond the immediate travel experience, providing more choice and rewarding loyalty.”

“At a time when many programs are scaling back, Skywards continues to offer bonus Miles promotions, great redemption offers, reward flights, upgrades and valuable opportunities to earn Miles with new partners - Citi is an excellent example with the Emirates Citi Platinum Card,” Mr Labelle said.

Mr Labelle added, “During October, Skywards total membership in Australia demonstrated an increase of over 25 percent on 2007 - a testament to the popularity of our program and the excellent benefits our members enjoy.”

Emirates’ Australia Vice President, Stephen Pearse, said, “Emirates is committed to the Australian community, and we have continued to show this through our involvement with some of Australia’s biggest sponsorships and through our acknowledgement of the importance of this market.  In 2009 we will be adding a third daily service in Melbourne, a second daily service in Brisbane and launching the A380 on the Dubai-Sydney-Auckland route.”

“The introduction of the Emirates Citi Platinum Card is another example of our commitment to Australia.  In every aspect of our business we strive to offer benefits our competitors don’t.  The Emirates Citi Platinum Card does that.  With our card you can experience some of our premium offerings; the chauffeur-drive service and access to Emirates Lounges.

“From Australia, Emirates flies to more than 101 destinations in 61 countries, including 22 European destinations, giving us a greater span of reach than other airlines servicing this market.  With this in mind, the Emirates Citi Platinum Card will enable Australians to benefit from the Emirates experience, and earn valuable reward points in the process,” Mr Pearse concluded.
