A cello tour de force plus colourful impressions of the sea.

Plunge into the raw and refreshing power of the sea with Debussy’s stirring La Mer and Sibelius’ thunderous Oceanides. Superstar cellist Gautier Capuçon performs Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme and Andante Cantabile.

Making his WASO debut, French conductor Ludovic Morlot directs two evocative tone poems by Sibelius and Debussy that reflect the sea, like impressionist paintings rendered with music. The iridescent glint of sunlight on gentle waters, crashing waves and fearsome storms are portrayed with glistening, vivid orchestral colour.
